Made for a summer show in Otaru and elsewhere in Hokkaido, in two days of wandering the streets of the area.

“I am by nature someone who has little use for such things as origins and fixed points, and in this respect street photographer surely is an occupation that suits me well. Nevertheless, capturing the extensive net of streets that stretches across the globe like a labyrinth sometimes seems to me just as pointless as sticking a rod in the ocean, and I experience a disappointing sense of futility. However, it is my extremely optimistic nature that encourages me to keep shooting nonetheless. After all, I'm only happy when I'm out there with the camera in my hand.”

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
