The page order differs from copy to copy

In September 2025 a participatory workshop was held at a gallery in New York, where visitors could photocopy prints, bind them on site, and make their own books. The project reimagined the artist's Printing Show of 1974, a legendary event in which he photocopied pictures taken during his 1971 stay in the city, bound them on the spot and sold the resulting volume immediately after production. Out of the hundred copies produced during the new workshop, a limited run of fifty has been published here. While the pictures are the same across all copies, as the title suggests — the word means mixed — the page order varies from book to book, and the sequence cannot be chosen. The silkscreen-printed cover exists in two versions with identical content.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
