Searching for a minimum medium in which to print pictures made in everyday life and show them by hand to those around him, Daido Moriyama launched the self-published journal Record in 1972. Publication was suspended in May of the following year, when the fifth issue appeared, and was revived in 2006; it continues today.

This is a digest of the journal from number one to number thirty. The images are reproduced at their original size, the afterwords written by the maker himself are included, and the total number of pictures comes to two hundred and eighty.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
