“The material these works were made from was taken from two earlier series of flowers, one in colour and one in black and white. Unlike collages where miscellaneous things are mixed together in a single work, these contain exclusively my own previous flower frames.

I started with items from the monochrome series, which caused in me a strong urge to join the single flowers together. There are no rules for collage, and I was not satisfied by just scattering them around. At some point in the process I reverted the colour images into negatives, and found the resulting combinations intriguingly refreshing: they reminded me of the films of Kenneth Anger, or of nineteen-eighties New York underground artists, and renewed my awareness that this particular sensation was still alive inside me. The final result was a trilogy of colour, monochrome and reversed flowers.”
