A gathering of work made in Tokyo in 1992, none of it published before.
“In 1992 I was in my mid fifties. It was around the time when I closed down the private gallery I had been running on Miyamasuzaka in Shibuya and moved to a space near the Yotsuya 4-chome crossing. During the years I had the gallery there were of course many people visiting, so I could not just lock the door and go out whenever I wanted; until at some point, although it was a consequence of my own doing, it was too much and my impatience got the better of me. All I wanted was to go out and take pictures — I did not care about what or how to shoot, as long as I could jump into the street and click away.
As I had recorded every nook and corner of my new neighbourhood in no time, I basically had only Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ikebukuro left to explore, and the time that followed I spent wandering through the mazes of the city.”
