“Barcelona. La metrópolis en la era de la fotografía, 1860-2004” is a historical synthesis that shows how photography has been the favoured medium for constructing the image of the city in public opinion and collective memory.

It offers a genealogy of the production of an image of Barcelona at once dominating and popular. An important feature of the book is the selection of documents drawn from both public and private archives in Spain and elsewhere, which provide an entirely new and unprecedented source of information on the city.
