Deported from London on my first attempt to enter the United Kingdom, I returned to Mexico, and during a layover at the Dallas airport in the United States, I was held in a cell. I went back to England, worked in an Italian restaurant, saved money, and traveled. I eventually settled in Madrid, did the same, but also studied some photography and began photographing African and Indian immigrants.

I traveled to Mexico, where I became interested in Central Americans undergoing rehabilitation after losing limbs from falling off the train they were riding to the United States. When I reached the southern border between Mexico and Guatemala, I realized that the issue goes far beyond a physical border and a group of migrants boarding trains to the U.S.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
