To mark the centenary of Saul Leiter's birth, a comprehensive retrospective traces his life and work. It covers Leiter's entire oeuvre, from his meditative New York street scenes to his fashion work, from his minimal black-and-white nudes to his paintings and self-portraits, diving deep into his archive to reveal contact sheets, sketchbooks and personal ephemera.

Created in collaboration with the Saul Leiter Foundation, this ambitious publication is packed with previously unpublished works and throws new light on his life. It is composed of archive materials, such as contact sheets and diaries, on public view for the first time, and texts that analyse Leiter's life and philosophy, the regional nature of his New York street work and his pioneering approach in the field of fashion.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
