Text by Thomas Quinn

The bank itself does not exist. It depends on who is sitting on it. And why. Theoretically, there are as many benches as there are people. And theoretically there would then be a society in which everyone had their place. Utopian. In practice, one would rather fear that the entire people would remain seated. You are forced to differentiate between a bench and a work bench, especially on the bench where money works.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
