Failed Postcards from Naples was born in 2025 during an artist residency in Naples, produced and curated by the Spot Home Gallery. Naples, a constantly overexposed city, requires gazes that do not stop at the surface, capable of breaking its sedimented imagination. Kourtney Roy faces this complexity by doing what is most her own: she transforms reality into an unstable and ambiguous set, playing with the contradictions of the city to generate alienating, disorientating and subtly surreal situations. Faithful to his own visual language - hyperreal colours, theatrical lighting and dark humour, always poised between irony and anxiety - Roy stages and embodies fictitious characters that give shape to his fantasies and desires. Her body fragments into a constellation of excessive, grotesque, irreverent and provocative female figures, inspired by a Neapolitan aesthetic filtered through cinema, popular culture, literature and daily observation of the city. The images of Failed Postcards from Naples explore urban interstices: peripheral spaces, transit areas, desolate and forgotten places, far from classic postcard scenarios. In this stratified Naples, fiction and reality overlap, and what is usually overlooked ceases to be a simple background to become a field of experience and new narrative possibilities. Roy's work reflects on identity and desire, playing with stereotypes and subverting them.
