Symphony II marks a new chapter in Nobuo Iida's photographic work, with more than forty unpublished images. After exploring the poetry of flowers in Symphony, this second book broadens his gaze to include other forms of plant life, such as grass, roots and spider webs. Iida's approach remains deeply rooted in his connection to light and nature, a journey begun after the 2011 earthquake in Japan. That pivotal moment led him to develop a unique technique, using “inappropriate” lenses to reveal hidden particles of light and create images where plants and light merge in a visual alchemy imbued with mysticism and joy. In Symphony II he continues this exploration with photographs that invite an oneiric journey. Lines blur, colours mingle, and each image reveals an ephemeral beauty while celebrating the diversity of the plant world. True to his artisanal approach, Iida does not alter his images with software, relying on handmade filters and an intuitive mastery of light.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
