Album, Eloïse Labarbe-Lafon's first book, is constructed like a true photo album. The images mingle, answer one another, and form a recomposed memory, between fiction, recollection and reverie. This sensitive montage draws us into a world at once nostalgic and melancholy. The artist's work is based on photographs taken on black-and-white film, then hand-coloured. The paint, applied with a brush or a finger, deliberately leaves imperfections, smears and fingerprints visible, so many physical marks that trouble and enrich the surface of the image. The book brings together more than eighty photographs made over the years, in France, Greece, Japan and Mexico, weaving an intimate and timeless visual narrative.
