'Words' gathers the work for which Koichiro Kimura held an exhibition in 2014 and received an honourable mention at that year's Canon New Cosmos of Photography. Setting a camera in the ceiling of his home and letting it shoot automatically every ten minutes for two years, he produced some hundred thousand frames, from which an unfeigned family portrait emerges. A parent and child sleeping close together, a son napping, a mother reading: the scenes are as if in conversation, and perhaps there 'words' are no longer needed. 'I hope these become photographs like peering into someone's house, like watching over them, like looking at a picture book,' Kimura says, an occasion to consider the bonds of family.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
