A Fallen Angel first appeared across fifty-six pages of the April 1965 issue of Camera Mainichi, a vivid debut for the twenty-seven-year-old Yoshihiro Tatsuki, with picture editing by Makoto Wada, poems by Shuji Terayama and commentary by Shinichi Kusamori. This book adds twenty-four previously uncollected frames to the original sixty-two. As Kusamori wrote, turn its pages as a raft adrift on waves: when the girl wraps the Stars and Stripes around her body and straddles a broomstick like a witch, do not read it as a critique of civilization but be a spectator of dreams. Tatsuki abandons the symbolism of intuitive feeling and composition, recording the continuous encounter of one girl's body and psychology — less a story than a document.
