A large publication illustrating the exhibition at Zachęta and at the Bunkier Sztuki gallery in Kraków. The installation was a twenty-one-metre wall covered with eighteen thousand micro-photographs arranged in several dozen rectangles. Each photograph was a frame that had been broadcast on Polish television since the 1970s, when Zofia Kulik began keeping and collecting this documentation of the iconosphere of everyday life. The frames synthesise the twentieth century: soldiers, nuclear explosions, discoveries in biology, chemistry and physics, wars, diseases, death, nature, fashion, the body. The catalogue gathers the micro-photographs on 168 plates, together with comments from the film materials, the broadcast dates of the programmes, and the author's own remarks.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
