Terra di Diatomee is a declaration, a true promise of kinship. From a situated and partial point of view, from Terra dei Fuochi to Terra di Diatomee, the project explores some zones of contact and proximity that bind the artist to one of Earth's companion species. The diatom, a microscopic alga upon which much of life on Earth depends, becomes a guiding figuration with which to think alternative worlds to global warming and the sixth extinction. The images, made between 2023 and 2024 mainly at the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station in Naples but also in other spaces of knowledge such as museums and schools, are interwoven with family archive photographs and situated landscapes, dialoguing with scientific texts on diatom biology.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
