The book project Pixels of Memories / بكسلات الذاكرة engages with memory, erasure and the invisibility of historical experience through the language of digital imagery. It constructs a fragmented visual narrative in which gaps, distortions and errors become central elements of meaning, transforming absence into a form of testimony.

The work is based on an extensive survey of Iraq through Google Maps, where hundreds of screenshots have been collected and assembled into an archive. Unlike other regions, many of the 360-degree views available online are not produced by the platform itself but uploaded by private users, creating uneven visual coverage and unexpected ruptures in representation.

Within this material, the artist focuses particularly on glitches, omissions and discontinuities that appear throughout the digital landscape. These visual interruptions are not treated as technical failures, but as revealing moments that expose the limits of visibility and the constructed nature of online cartography.

The book becomes a space of reading and decoding, where viewers are invited to navigate layered images and reconstruct meaning from fragments, absences and digital noise.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
