Essays by Anthony Faramelli and Ryan Mahan

A sequence of images on which Brad Feuerhelm activates a destructive process, taking target practice at every kind of decline of the American dream. The images are collected, smashed, scratched, distressed and destroyed, exposing the perverse ideological core of American culture in agonising clarity; in their unaltered form they deliver messages of community, freedom of consumption and sexual liberation. By negating these liberal narratives Feuerhelm formulates a nihilist politics that questions whether history ever really began. The book includes essays by Anthony Faramelli and Ryan Mahan.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
