UN-IDENTIFIED is a series about belief in alien species and about how people build their own world and perceptions. It is based on a personal experience the photographer had at the age of ten, which triggered her passion for the subject and her curiosity to understand the psychology behind it. The idea came after visiting the International UFO Congress in Phoenix: she was struck by the crowd of people drawn to the event and by the secrecy surrounding the subject, and felt as if entering a new universe, a subculture in which spaceships, contacts with creatures from other dimensions, space travel and abductions are part of the reality of the believers, even though outsiders regard them as strange and with scepticism. Carl Jung said that modern man projects his inner state onto the sky. In a cybernetic culture full of uncertainties, catastrophes and fear of the unknown, people look for a way to define themselves anew and to feel safe in a group of like-minded people. By giving the inexplicable a divine, supernatural character they feel hopeful and at the same time chosen to take part in a sacred mission of spreading the truth.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
