“For centuries the Adriatic has been a symbol and a site of multicultural dialogue; for generations it has been the ultimate destination, the emotional and formal platform of a certain Journey to Italy. Always the Eastern Sea, the sea of intimacy described by Predrag Matvejević, it has defined access to and transmission of knowledge and narrative. Even today it remains associated with holidays, the sea, and travel with its imaginaries: the myth of leisure and adventure, culture and events, temporary residence, hospitality and relationships.

‘Rooms with a View. San Benedetto/Pesaro. Round Trip’ is an Adriatic journey made of movement and pause, an experience of places along the coastline, where railway tracks graze the sea and parallel lines run between seafront and railway, the SS16 and the A14—main arteries that have shaped urban and social development, as well as aesthetics and forms of community. It is an inside-out journey, a limes between imaginaries and anthropologies, between hills, sea and built environment, extending into the intimacy of places: villas, holiday colonies, boarding houses, small hotels and apartment blocks become traces, repositories and devices of vision, knowledge and contemplation.
