Created entirely from found images, ALBUM collects the first ten issues of the zine of the same name begun by Eline Mugaas and Elise Storsveen in 2008. It is made of full-page photographic illustrations, advertisements and other ubiquitous media pictures taken from etiquette manuals, cookbooks, travel magazines, craft books, fashion magazines and sexual manuals, reflecting the popular imagery of Scandinavian households from the 1960s through the 1980s. The pictures are arranged across spreads into humorous readings organized by heavy themes such as the lonely man, femininity, architecture, family, outer space and nature, a meta-narrative on the human body, sexuality and the social lives of images. The cover shows a woman in a gray sweater and gloves holding a bird with outstretched wings beneath the red title, and the pages shown online include tropical fish on blue cloth and a quilted blue triangle on black.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
