Jean-François Joly's exhibition at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie shows the public for the first time some thirty black-and-white prints made across Europe between 1998 and 2013. Extending his work on the political, social and ethnic castaways, Joly questioned, in this previously unpublished series, the condition of the Roma in Romania, Kosovo, France and Macedonia. He delivers a powerful, sometimes disturbing testimony about these often marginalised and stigmatised populations, through a gallery of portraits that restores all their dignity to these exiles without land.
