Arno Brignon, the pioneering resident, opened the way and walked to link the two spaces of the Terre et Territoires residency. From Tavers and Thoré-la-Rochette he photographed and walked the deserted landscapes of the Beauce and then the undergrowth of the Perche Vendômois. On his way he met the women and men who work and live here, between the Loire and the Loir, between the majestic river and a discreet and mysterious stream. From these encounters he brought back a human written account that evokes a world in mutation and tries to understand what the exploitation of the land by man, ecology and "living here" are. He delivers this mutation in images through an assertive technique, using expired film, with the shots made on an obsolete amateur camera. We travel in a sort of timeless road trip, and the landscape seems atomised in supernatural colours. Terre et Territoires is a creation residency, an invitation to travel in the Centre-Val de Loire region, from the Loire to the Perche vendômois by way of the Beauce.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
