Eric Nehr's photographs present a succession of bust-length portraits of people met in the street and taken in the studio, each against a painted monochrome backdrop of a different colour. The light gently models faces, necks and shoulders without casting shadows or revealing its source. The very luminous prints restore the real size of faces that are slightly blurred without being obviously pixelated. Nehr clearly departs from the classical attitude toward the genre, and to grasp his pictures in their truth it is better to approach them through their periphery. […] Philippe Bazin.
