A dense book of 312 pages for a flow of 560 "overprints", or "an everyday obsession". An intuitive, mocking project in which everyone can find themselves, the overprint plays at deconstructing, cheering up, defacing and distorting the very stylised world of the magazine and, more generally, of the reproduced image. Half iconic, half ironic, Daubal's approach explores the themes of fashion, ecology and the human being in their environment. Her artisanal, even minimalist way of working, made of recycling, cutting out and tinkering of all kinds, provokes reaction and reflection. She invites us to look differently at the subjects she tackles by playfully deconstructing established codes and colliding glossy paper with popular culture: to create a dialogue by combining the improbable, to provoke questions rather than supply answers. Absurd object or initiator of thought? Fruit of chance or deliberate choice? Empty of meaning or symbolic? Homage or cheese? A perpetual performance in which she makes fashion rhyme with onions!

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
