To leave everything for a country known only through printed images: Anna made that choice. She is neither adventurer nor journalist, simply the unexpected model of the photographer Nina Korhonen. This eighty-year-old woman is photographed in all her activities, intimate, funny, full of winks at life, which she seems to cross with distance and carelessness. The portrait drawn here is that of the grandmother of the collective unconscious, who lovingly prepares jams, slips walnuts mischievously into the bottom of your pocket, or wakes you at dawn to let you feel the curious sensation of walking barefoot in the cool dew. Captured with respect and tenderness, these images clash with what the visitor is used to seeing. They slip into the American interior forged by this Finnish woman who decided one fine morning in 1959 to leave her husband and daughter and set off to conquer the east of the United States. Moments are juxtaposed, playing on solitude, discovery and a weary time. Anna, who is none other than the photographer's real grandmother, likes to hold the lens as much as to ignore it in the sigh of a nap.
