Open to the proximity of diverse objects, urban places or natural motifs, Joséphine Michel's images weave a universe where perception draws the viewer into a game of overlap, recollection and fusion, the book and accompanying DVD offering two statements where associations and sequences become second images. Born in Paris in 1981, Michel studied philosophy before graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles in 2005; with Lude, her first book, she begins a practice of photography open to the coexistence of heterogeneous elements, disconnected spaces without unity of time or place, without hierarchy of subject, centred on the ambiguity of their relationship to the real and to fiction, shot through with literary analogy and cinematic montage, evoking the need to see through, to pass into a kind of thickness of the image, whether tangible or intangible, induced by transparency or opacity.
