A sociologist and photographer for thirty-five years, Irène Jonas has spent the last fifteen combining classic sociological inquiry with documentary image in a practice she calls visual sociology, previously applied to family photography and death in photography. Invited to study the Perche region's population, she turns to its ancestral rural inhabitants confronted with the settling of new, neo-rural arrivals since the 1980s and 90s, illustrating through the voices of both locals and newcomers how ties form between different social layers sharing the same territory.
