Laurent Sfar's work sits between art, design and architecture. Working through a logic of the absurd, he upends the form and function of objects, rendering them obsolete while revealing, in the same gesture, their social, political or exchange-based use, transforming objects as different as a banknote and a ping-pong table, both bound by precise rules of exchange. In other pieces he blurs the boundary between public and private space, questioning the social and symbolic rules that govern both.
