Bernard Plossu photographed the gardens of Hyères and the islands of Porquerolles and Port-Cros, in colour Fresson prints, in a town that is at once rural, urban, coastal and insular, famously nicknamed "Hyères-les-Palmiers". Strolling calmly through its gardens among children, peacocks and ducks, climbing toward the Parc Sainte-Claire's steep stairways and marvelling at its lush Mediterranean vegetation, Plossu captures a southern French light somewhere between Douanier Rousseau's jungle-green fantasy and the everyday pleasure of an afternoon walk.
