This book presents fifty portraits of the artist Jacques Villeglé made between 1985 and 2013, twenty-eight years during which the photographer followed this internationally renowned figure, a founding member of the Nouveaux Réalistes, the 1960 avant-garde movement advocating a return to reality and the use of found objects. François Poivret traces chronologically the emergence of Villeglé's work through his torn-poster sessions, his lettering cut-outs and the traces, tags and signage captured in the cities where the artist moved, from Rome and Istanbul to New York, San Francisco and Paris.
