a special edition was issued in 1994, commissioned by furniture company Unifor, with a cover portrait by Gianni Berengo Gardin
This book sets Basilico's photographs of Italian cities, from Naples and Genoa to Rome, Trieste and Milan, against his documentation of the Normandy coast made on commission for the French Mission Photographique de la DATAR. Critic Carlo Bertelli writes that with the French mission, landscape itself enters Basilico's rigorous iconography of "non-landscapes" for the first time: a vast, man-made horizon that nonetheless pushes its human maker into both relationship and conflict with nature, a theme Bertelli calls Basilico's true test as a photographer-philosopher.
