Made in 1978 for a group show in Lodi titled "The Margin of Freedom / The Object: Interpretations Compared", this early sequence turns away from the polished still-life photography Basilico had been shooting for design and architecture magazines. Thinking about the relationship between a chair and the human body, he found his subject in the comic, grotesque imprint that heavily textured beach chairs leave on the bare skin of sunbathers: a temporary negative "contact print" made by the body itself, aesthetically revealing the original surface it touched. First published in 1984 and reissued in a numbered edition in 2006, the project is one of Basilico's rare forays into a symbolic, ironic register.
