Co-opted by Henri Cartier-Bresson, his "lifelong master", Scianna was the first Italian photographer to join Magnum, in 1982: confirmation of the strength of a photography always closely tied to the themes of his land, of remembrance, of a memory made of thoughts, of ancient myths relived in a contemporary key, of masters to learn from, of sudden intermittences of the heart, of faces recognised and never forgotten.
