Interviews by Simona Guerra
Logos series

Photographer by love and by profession, but also advertising designer, journalist, critic and polemicist, exhibition curator, university teacher and historian: through photography, its history, its daily practice, its protagonists and new trends, Colombo took part in the history of Italy. "The centre of my artistic and cultural interests has always been the human condition: my fellow men, the private and social scene around me." Guided by Simona Guerra, he retraces the years, the discussions with friends and colleagues, his most incisive images and some of his writings: the path of "a man who believes in photography as a powerful social and political weapon of our time". The book is organised by decades, from the 1950s to the 2000s, each divided into three sections: Diary, from long interviews; Gazes, his pictures; and Pre-texts, a selection of his writings.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
