Taking us through the enchanting islands of Greece, the author lets us feel the breeze, the salt on the skin and the reflection of the sun on the waves. The pictures, taken during a long itinerary through islands and seas, some stretches travelled by motorbike, from 1989 to 1999, try out subjective and unusual points of view. Moving from Ithaca to Zakynthos, from Lesbos to Santorini like a new Ulysses, he captures the harmonious play of sunlight, the spontaneity of the small daily gestures of the islanders, the serenity only a seascape can give. In his hymn to brightness, expressed in an evocative black and white, he was inspired by the poetry of the Nobel laureate Odysseas Elytis, leaving the images free to tell the beauty of a landscape of wind and horizons. Far from the frenzy of city life, the islands are seen with the pure eyes of a child, as if for the first time, in ecstatic contemplation of nature and life.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
