Nine conversations with Olivo Barbieri, Luca Campigotto, Mario Cresci, Paola Di Bello, Stefano Graziani, Guido Guidi, Francesco Jodice, Nino Migliori and Massimo Vitali
Logos series

The book gathers nine dialogues that range across different styles and personalities of Italian picture-making. Starting from the enquiry into landscape by Olivo Barbieri, it arrives at the famous beach series of Massimo Vitali. In between we meet the work of Luca Campigotto, the fruit of journeys all over the world; the series of Mario Cresci, whose output has been shaped by several disciplines including cultural anthropology; the enquiries into contemporary society of Paola Di Bello; the apparently documentary images of Stefano Graziani; the work on territory of Guido Guidi; the new expressive forms of Francesco Jodice, which reach as far as video art; and finally the visionary experiments of Nino Migliori. For some years the author has combined her own practice with teaching, supporting cultural initiatives that bring the public closer to this language, and the idea of setting up an exchange grew out of that.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
