The catalogue of the exhibition Insula, curated by Gianluca Riccio: the route Antonio Biasiucci traced through a space bounded by the sea, where a narrative at once human and natural lies in layers and blurs into the chiaroscuro and the black-and-white shading of the photographer. The book is a powerful, spiritual and personal account of the author’s vision of Capri. In a place made of memory, nature and suggestion, the photographer, born at Dragoni, reads that scenery again in more than fifty pictures. Nature, the weight of the territory, its care and its accessibility all surface in the project, whose photographs will enter the museum holdings of the Certosa di San Giacomo. The images take in the Grotta di Matermania, the Roman remains of Villa Jovis, details of the natural world, the collections of the Museo Ignazio Cerio and the architectural fragments and artistic objects of the Certosa di San Giacomo and Villa San Michele, in a mixture of history, culture and a changing environment.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
