Marking the start of the great Bauhaus anniversary in 2019, the Bauhaus Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung Berlin presented its New Bauhaus Photography collection, unique in Europe. The volume introduces the protagonists and the institutions that, since the founding of the New Bauhaus in Chicago in 1937, inspired, made and collected photographic work and then brought it before the public. The wide range of plates runs from abstract photograms and material experiments to conceptual, process-driven bodies of work; contemporary pieces from Chicago complete the picture and reflect the continuing importance of that teaching.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
