Concept, photographs and design by Letícia Lampert

To demolish, to destroy, to dismantle. An action scheduled to happen in large residential areas of Chinese cities such as Shanghai. The ideogram, sprayed on the walls, announces that soon nothing will remain. How often these scenes recur, and on what scale, astonishes the passer-by. This is the so-called progress installing itself with the haste of those who have no time to lose. And amidst the rubble, almost as a last breath, signs of private life now laid open invite us to fill those places with invented memories while we can still witness them. The loose binding lets the reader open the whole book out and recombine the pictures in different ways.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
