The title BAXT comes from a Roma word meaning “fate” or “luck.” The project chronicles the life of the Roma community in Lithuania. The work originated in 1999 and spans the entire historical process of Lithuania from the post-Soviet period to its entry into the EU, a time when Roma identity was systematically excluded from the national imagination.
This volume is not just a photographic portrait; it is a visual and human archive. Miksys documented not only places-such as the Taboras Roma neighborhood in Vilnius, demolished by the authorities in 2020-but also personal stories. The portraits are not just ethnographic or social documentations: they are acts of relating.
