In 1981, Andrew Miksys' father began publishing Bingo Today newspaper in Seattle. The newspaper was full of photographs his father had taken of bingo players and stories about the prizes they had won. Andrew's mother wrote horoscopes. Andrew was introduced to the world of bingo when he was eleven and his parents took him to a children's bingo session. When Andrew got his driver's license at sixteen, his father tasked him with delivering Bingo Today to bingo halls and convenience stores across Seattle. Ten years later he returned to Seattle to visit his parents and decided to revisit some bingo halls with his camera. Bingo hall managers and regulars remembered him from his delivery days and Andrew began taking photographs for this project. BINGO includes Andrew's color photographs, his father's black and white photographs, and some graphics from Bingo Today.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
