Oriente takes forgetting as its theme. The photographs draw on the ideogram Ji Zhu, written on a blackboard, which in Chinese means "you must not forget". Remembering has lost its importance in a society that lives at a devouring speed. Juan I-Jong, who founded the magazine Photographers International in Taipei, wrote of this essay: "Anna Kahn uses dark colours and weak light, focusing on details and creating a dense, difficult setting. Every clue that has to do with China is presented through metaphor, as though the photographer were inviting the viewer to solve a mystery."
