The wish to understand the subjective documentary image is not a direct or assertive process about something we see. Baches meditates on the crossings of human relationships. It all happens in one single setting, with people who are not thinking about speaking for photography. It could be about somebody’s life, about some of us. Part of life happens through the wish to feel oneself moving through time, leaving one homeland and making another. Through things that fly, the story of a family core is diverted. Baches is about the possibilities of what did or did not exist in the nature of the story itself. The narrative is a winding possibility in which the gaps stumble on silence and fall amidst photographs, among people. Baches breathes because the story does not end; it becomes an image that blows renewed air to those who need to dive deep into family memories. It is the first photobook by Montserrat Baches, born in 1954.
