An intimate, delicate and poetic photobook in which nature, emotions and the memories of the author's childhood and youth intertwine to create a world where the sea and the stones are the origin of sound and silence. Luz L. Bermejo draws on memory to speak of all the people we are and have been, in a photobook that you can only enter by letting yourself be touched and being ready not to come out unscathed. The author questions the limits of language and of her own skin, and makes us think about how the interactions we establish give meaning to our emotional memory. In Isla Baja, Bermejo creates a world in which words flee and at the same time envelop us, as skin and memory knot together recollections and time. Distant experiences blurred by reverie; an ineffable evocation of fleeting memories to which it is impossible to return.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
