Photographer Antony Cairns' work focuses on urban landscapes of various cities around the world. His approach is informed by the obsolescence of recording technologies and the history of the camera apparatus. PXL CTY is Cairns' most recent body of work and was shot using the PXL 2000, a hand-held video camera that was introduced into the retail market in the 1980s. This recording device uses audio cassettes as its medium, recording moving images as sound data.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
