"It was at a yard in Kingston on a hot and humid night in April 1986 that I took my first pictures with a Leica and a handheld lamp, no flash. It was here that I truly first encountered Jamaican sound system culture and the nascent dancehall scene, and I was instantly struck by it." The work follows that culture between the island and Britain over three years, from the yards and lawns where the speaker stacks are built to the dances held on the other side of the Atlantic.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
