A place to live is a provocative project, in the literal sense of the word. Pro-voke, a “calling to the fore” of something […]: the housing emergency of the city of Portland in Oregon, United States. Today, your four domestic walls are solid, insulated and with so many beautiful paintings hanging on the walls; tomorrow - especially in times of global crises and pandemics such as the current ones - they could become as thin as the tents on the streets of Portland. The economic, environmental, political and global crisis has enormous repercussions on the topic of housing. Housing policies need to be rethought. Homelessness is increasingly linked to the crisis we are experiencing. Since I have been to Portland, in Oregon, I haven’t stopped thinking about what not having a home means.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
