Sonia Lenzi portrays the young women she met walking along the Regent’s Canal, London, and with them the fears of a mother who sees her daughters become adult women, precisely in these years characterised by uncertainty. A mother can teach everything she knows and prepare her daughters to the fullest to cope with difficulties, but transmitting the experience and awareness of the dangers of the world is more complicated. The challenge of facing obstacles, is made even more insurmountable often just because you are women, especially in these times of climate change, pandemic, sexism, discrimination, economic and political instability and, in England, the effects of Brexit.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
