The work looks at the mass-produced and at the entirely unique play equipment installed in the public spaces of housing estates of the socialist era. Divided into five chapters, it presents in more than one hundred and fifty pictures objects such as rocket slides and globe climbers, spaceships and animal-shaped swings, metal roundabouts and other peculiar pieces that today would be judged too dangerous to play on. From Riga through Dushanbe to Kyiv and Vladivostok, children dreamed of becoming cosmonauts while playing in themed grounds full of cosmic toys that in the cold war years stood in front of every block. Some of the equipment is still in use, other pieces are slowly disappearing.
